Works

2006 - 2007: Broken - Down - Silence

Why do you keep staring?
    Just back off will ya?
What's your problem?
    What are you lookin' at?

Youth homelessness
    Indigenous culture
Ethic multiculturalism
    Asylum Seekers

One question:

Do you see me differently?

Watercarriers' newest work is a 25 minute high energy contemporary dance piece. It incorporates stunning photography in multimedia and an eclectic and memorable soundtrack. Its original, collaborative choreography involves a greater physicality than previous works.

Broken Down Silence is an evocative work that depicts snapshots of Australian subcultures. With content specifically looking at youth homelessness, indigenous culture, ethic multiculturalism and asylum seekers, the Watercarriers seek to challenge themselves and their audiences on our views of each other. Broken Down Silence stirs emotion and gives an audience space to reflect and respond as deeply as they wish.

Are any of us all that different? Or is it just what we see?

2005 - 2006: The Darker Side of Chocolate

The Darker Side of Chocolate explores exploitation in the cocoa industry. Carriers are supporting the Fair Trade Association and Oxfam to raise awareness of the issues of child slavery.

"How much does a chocolate cost?"
"A couple of dollars is that all?"
"Maybe a little more overseas?"
"Hey Lady how much for your child?"
"Ooh... I don't feel comfortable with that approach."
"Hey chocolate is always a great comfort!"

"So... How much does your chocolate cost?"

This 25 minute piece is a touring work and incorporates drama, dance and live acoustic music.

2004: The Veil

....to speak of a love everyone longs for....

The Veil is a love story of a divine nature. It tells of a bridegroom who sacrifices his all for the sake of his bride.

This 40-minute dance theatre production has a cast of talented performers and incorporates contemporary dance, fire-twirling and drama with multimedia and historic costume design.

This show was developed in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology costume department.

Part of this production was performed at the "dressing living dolls": the 2004 Swinburne University Costume Parade in November, and is continuing its development in the future.

2003: OASIS

OASIS examines our need to come together in a spirit of reconciliation and hope to deliver True Water to a thirsty generation.

"Open the Flood gates of Heaven and let it rain".

OASIS was the debut production of WCDT. It was presented by a passionate cast, consisting of Indigenous Australians, Indonesian, Chinese, Anglo Australians and European dancers, writers, film makers, twirlers and actors, who worked to inspire and encourage the audience to consider the drought we experience when we live in fear. It was a production of Hope... personal, emotional, cultural and national.

We hoped to shape a platform where young people were given a voice to raise the awareness about Australia's drought and its relationship to each and every Australian's personal journey.

Performed at: Deakin University, Black Stump Christian Arts Festival, and local venues in and around Melbourne.
